We’ve been using the free DynDNS service for a while now and thought it would be a good idea to post about its merits (for those of you who don’t already know about it).
With their service, you can access your computer remotely with a DNS name instead of an IP address that probably changes weekly. With their service, you can:
* Connect to your web, email, ssh, vnc, vpn, etc. Server
* Type in a single hostname to reach your router and computer
* View your DVR and security cameras through a hostname
* Replace your static IP address and remotely connect
Also, if your laptop is stolen, you can track its IP address and hopefully track it down.
